Configure Pull Priorities: Pull Count and Date Added

Control which eligible leads your team pulls first by prioritizing how often they have been pulled and when they were added.

Written by Gabriel Buck

Overview

Pull Priorities determine the order in which eligible leads are offered to your sales team within a Pull Distribution strategy.

Use Pull Count to prioritize leads based on how many times they have been pulled. Use Date Added to prioritize newer or older leads. Arrange these priorities to match your follow-up process.

For example, place Pull Count first with the lowest count prioritized, followed by Date Added with the newest leads prioritized. This gives less-pulled leads priority and favors newer leads when pull counts are equal.

Pull Count measures pulls, not customer interest or successful contact. A higher count does not necessarily mean a lead is more engaged.

Configure pull priorities

  1. Go to More → Settings → Lead Distribution, under Setup Lead Routing.

  2. Open the Pull Distribution strategy you want to edit.

  3. Find Pull Priorities.

  4. Choose the sorting direction for each priority:

Priority

Sorting direction

Effect

Pull Count

Lowest first

Prioritizes leads that have been pulled the fewest times.

Pull Count

Highest first

Prioritizes leads that have been pulled the most times.

Date Added

Newest first

Prioritizes the most recently added leads.

Date Added

Oldest first

Prioritizes leads that have been in the system longest.

  1. Drag the priorities into the desired order. The first priority determines the primary order; the second breaks ties.

  2. Save the strategy and rebuild the queue to apply the updated order.

Choose the right priority order

Goal

First priority

Result

Work less-pulled leads, favoring fresh leads

Pull Count: Lowest first

Date Added: Newest first

Leads with fewer pulls come first. Among equal pull counts, newer leads come first.

Work less-pulled leads, favoring older leads

Pull Count: Lowest first

Date Added: Oldest first

Leads with fewer pulls come first. Among equal pull counts, older leads come first.

Focus on leads with more previous pulls

Pull Count: Highest first

Date Added: Newest first

Leads with more pulls come first. Among equal pull counts, newer leads come first.

Prioritize fresh incoming leads

Date Added: Newest first

Pull Count: Lowest first

Newer leads come first. Among equal dates, leads with fewer pulls come first.

Work through an older backlog

Date Added: Oldest first

Pull Count: Lowest first

Older leads come first. Among equal dates, leads with fewer pulls come first.

Choose the first priority carefully. For example, putting Pull Count first can place an older, never-pulled lead ahead of a newer lead that has already been pulled.

Priorities sort eligible leads. They do not make a lead eligible if it fails the strategy’s criteria or is still in a cool-down period.

Priority Combination Options

Pull Count: Lowest First
Date Added: Newest First

Note: This is the default order when creating a new distribution strategy and this is likely the best option to use for most business situations.

Pull Count: Newest First
Date Added: Lowest First

Pull Count: Newest First
Date Added: Newest First

Date Added: Lowest First
Pull Count: Lowest First

Date Added: Lowest First
Pull Count: Newest First

Date Added: Newest First
Pull Count: Newest First

Confirm it worked

  1. Identify a few eligible test leads with different pull counts and dates added.

  2. Determine their expected order using your first priority, then your second.

  3. Pull the leads and compare the results with that expected order.

For example, with Pull Count: Lowest first followed by Date Added: Newest first, a lead with zero pulls should come before a lead with one pull. Between two leads with zero pulls, the newer lead should come first.

Troubleshooting

Problem

What to check

The priority change has not taken effect.

Confirm the strategy was saved and the queue was rebuilt.

Leads appear in an unexpected order.

Check both sorting directions and which priority is first. Also confirm the leads are eligible for the strategy.

The queue is empty after rebuilding.

Review the strategy’s filters, calling hours, and cool-down settings to determine whether any leads qualify.

Older leads appear before fresh leads.

Check whether Date Added is set to oldest first or whether Pull Count takes precedence over lead age.

The same frequently pulled leads keep appearing first.

Check whether Pull Count is set to highest first.
