Overview
Lead Sources in SalesExec identify the specific providers, platforms, websites, or other origins responsible for generating your leads.
For example, your organization may receive leads from Google Ads, Meta Ads, third-party lead providers, affiliate partners, or its own website.
Configuring Lead Sources helps your sales and marketing teams understand where leads originate, organize incoming inquiries, and measure performance across different acquisition methods.
Lead Sources work alongside Marketing Channels and Campaigns to provide a more detailed view of your marketing efforts.
Marketing Channel | Lead Source | Campaign |
Paid Search | Google Ads | Phoenix Pest Control |
Social Media | Meta Ads | Fall Promotion |
Third-Party Leads | Lead Provider A | Residential Pest Leads |
Organic Search | Company Website | Request a Quote |
In this example, the Marketing Channel identifies the broad acquisition category, the Lead Source identifies the specific origin, and the Campaign identifies the individual marketing initiative.
This structure helps organizations compare the performance of different lead providers and marketing investments.

Lead Sources
Campaigns
Select Lead Sources to view or manage your existing sources.
Step 3: Add a New Lead Source
Click Add Source in the upper-left corner.
Enter a descriptive Name for the Lead Source.
Select the appropriate Owner.
Examples of Lead Source names include:
Google Ads
Meta Ads
Company Website
Lead Provider A
Affiliate Partner A
Referral Partner
Choose names that clearly identify where your leads originate.
Important: SalesExec does not prevent administrators from creating duplicate Marketing Channel, Lead Source, or Campaign names. Use unique, consistent names to avoid confusion and reporting inconsistencies.
Step 4: Assign Lead Source Ownership
Select the appropriate Owner for your Lead Source.
SalesExec supports ownership at both the corporate and branch levels.
Corporate Ownership
When a Lead Source is assigned to the corporate level, users throughout your organization can access it when manually adding leads.
This is useful for lead providers and marketing platforms shared across multiple branches.
Branch Ownership
When a Lead Source is assigned to a specific branch, access is limited to users associated with that branch.
This is useful when individual branches work with different lead providers or operate their own marketing programs.
Example:
A home services company operates branches in Phoenix, Tucson, and Las Vegas.
The company uses Google Ads across all three locations, so the administrator assigns that Lead Source to corporate ownership.
The Phoenix branch also purchases leads from a local lead generation provider. The administrator assigns that Lead Source to the Phoenix branch so only users associated with that branch can select it.
Why ownership matters: Correct ownership helps ensure representatives have access to the appropriate Lead Sources when manually entering leads.
Step 5: Save Your Lead Source
After entering the Lead Source name and selecting its owner:
Save the new Lead Source.
Return to the Lead Sources list.
Confirm the new source appears as expected.
You can also use this screen to edit existing Lead Sources.

What to Do After Creating a Lead Source
Once your Lead Source has been created, review how it fits into your organization's marketing attribution structure.
Organize Your Marketing Information
Use Marketing Channels, Lead Sources, and Campaigns consistently to distinguish broad acquisition methods, specific lead origins, and individual marketing initiatives.
For example:
Marketing Channel: Third-Party Leads
Lead Source: Lead Provider A
Campaign: Residential Pest Leads
Review Incoming Lead Configuration
If leads are delivered automatically from external providers, review the applicable integration or posting instructions to ensure the correct Lead Source information is associated with incoming records.
Evaluate Lead Source Performance
Use SalesExec reporting to analyze how leads from different sources progress through your sales process.
Depending on the report and configuration, relevant performance measures may include:
Leads received.
Contact rates.
Appointments scheduled.
Sales conversions.
Lead performance by source.
Comparing these results helps organizations identify which lead providers and acquisition methods generate valuable sales opportunities.
Best Practices for Managing Lead Sources
Use Clear, Consistent Names
Choose names that identify the actual provider or origin.
For example, Google Ads and Meta Ads are more descriptive than Online Leads 1 and Online Leads 2.
Avoid Duplicate Lead Sources
Although SalesExec allows duplicate names, maintaining unique Lead Sources helps prevent attribution and reporting confusion.
Assign Ownership Carefully
Use corporate ownership for sources shared throughout your organization and branch ownership for sources intended for a particular location.
Keep Your Lead Source List Organized
Review your sources periodically and identify outdated or redundant entries.
Coordinate with Marketing and Sales Teams
Ensure both teams use the same Lead Source definitions.
Review Lead Integrations
When adding a new lead provider or changing an existing integration, verify that incoming leads are associated with the intended marketing information.
